Video Title:
Crispus Attucks Circle for War Relief Poster
Description:
During World War I, African Americans in Philadelphia formed the Crispus Attucks Circle for War Relief to raise funds for Mercy Hospital, an institution serving black soldiers. Their efforts belonged to the larger humanitarian efforts of African Americans to aid their own when other organizations denied them services. Amanda Moniz, the David M. Rubenstein curator of philanthropy discusses the historical memory of the name Crispus Attucks and how black organizations have used it to advocate for equality.
