Video Title:
Teaching from Space: NASA's Educator Astronauts
Description:
After the Challenger tragedy, NASA replaced Teacher’s in Space with Educator Astronauts. Instead of recruiting private citizens to fly, they trained mission specialists that had educator backgrounds to be astronauts. In 2004, NASA selected Ricky Arnold, Dottie Metcalf-Lindenberger and Joe Acaba. Do you have a favorite teacher? Do you think they could be the next educator astronaut? What role do educator astronauts have in the future of space travel? This video was a part a full episode of STEM in 30 titled ""8 minute ride: The Space Shuttle at 40"" To watch the full episode visit: https://youtu.be/RpomQWwmsLM For more learning resources be sure to check out Smithsonian Learning Labs: https://learninglab.si.edu/collections/space-shuttle/Eo19xJ5HeiYjFXMa#r For more FREE teacher resources from the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum visit STEM in 30, the museum's Emmy nominated TV show for middle school students: https://airandspace.si.edu/stem-30
