Video Title:
Sustainable Agriculture | Youth in Action
Description:
In celebration of Earth Day, join young Indigenous leaders Kelsey Ducheneaux-Scott (Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe), Jack Pashano (Hopi), and Marco Ovando (Shoshone-Paiute Tribes) to discuss the role traditional ecological knowledge plays in their work as farmers and entrepreneurs. With the onset of COVID-19 and the pressing issues of climate change, investing in sustainable agriculture and food production is more important than ever. Native youth are offering innovative alternatives to these challenges and creating a future of farming that will feed generations to come. Moderated by Michaela Pavlat (Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians). This panel is part of the museum’s Living Earth Festival, which features Native experts who work to create innovative, robust, and ecologically sound food systems and agriculture businesses. Youth in Action: Conversations about Our Future is an online series hosted by the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian. These moderated panel discussions serve as a national platform to amplify the efforts of Native changemakers from across the Western Hemisphere who are engaged in civic and social justice work for Indigenous peoples. This webinar originally aired on April 22, 2021. 📅 VIEW THE UPCOMING YOUTH IN ACTION PROGRAM SCHEDULE: https://americanindian.si.edu/nk360/student-programs/distance-learning The National Museum of the American Indian’s distance learning programs explore the rich, complex, and dynamic histories and cultures of Indigenous peoples of the Western Hemisphere.
