Video Title:
The Haas Brothers with Mason Poole - Afreaks Process
Description:
#transformative, #intricate, #community, #beadwork, #nature This video is featured in the exhibition Beauty—Cooper Hewitt Design Triennial, on view at the museum February - August 2016. Explore the Beauty exhibition online at https://collection.cooperhewitt.org/exhibitions/69155413 About: The Haas Brothers is the partnership of twin brothers Nikolai (Niki) and Simon Haas (American, b. 1984). Playful and confrontational, they explore themes of nature, sexuality, psychedelia, and social equity. Their Afreaks collection (2015–ongoing) is co-created with craftswomen from the Khayelitsha informal settlement outside Cape Town, South Africa. The expressive personalities of the beaders (known as The Haas Sisters) who are featured in this video imbue each Afreak with inventive energy as well as astonishing craftsmanship.
