Video Title:
Julia | History Film Forum
Description:
The History Film Forum is an online series from the Smithsonian that explores history on the screen and the evolution of film as public history. The new film, Julia, brings to life the legendary cookbook author and television superstar who changed the way Americans think about food, television, and even about women. Using never-before-seen archival footage, personal photos, first-person narratives, and cutting-edge, mouth-watering food cinematography, the film traces Julia Child's 12-year struggle to create and publish the revolutionary Mastering the Art of French Cooking (1961) which has sold more than 2.5 million copies to date, and her rapid ascent to become the country’s most unlikely television star. Join the National Museum of American History’s food historian, Dr. Ashley Rose Young, as she goes behind-the-scenes with directors Julie Cohen and Betsy West about the making of the film and their experience bringing Julia Child to life. Presented by the Smithsonian Associates and Smithsonian's National Museum of American History through generous support of Dan Manatt.
