Video Title:
IAIA MoCNA Social Engagement Art Residency: Steven Yazzie and Nathan Young
Description:
Through the Artist Leadership Program of the National Museum of the American Indian, the IAIA Museum of Contemporary Native Arts (MoCNA) in Santa Fe invited four Native artists to access the MoCNA collection and create socially engaged art. In this video, multidisciplinary artist Steven Yazzie (Navajo/Laguna Pueblo/Anglo) and composer Nathan Young (Pawnee/Kiowa/Delaware) describe how they approached their collaborations with the community and the ideas behind their projects. A companion video on the IAIA MoCNA Social Engagement Art Residency focuses on the work of musician and artist Laura Ortman (White Mountain Apache) and artist, teacher, and farmer Eliza Naranjo Morse (Santa Clara Pueblo): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1F3xlTE_gg Produced by James Lujan. © 2015 National Museum of the American Indian, Smithsonian Institution
