Video Title:
Environmental Advocacy Among Dual Pandemics
Description:
In celebration of Women’s History Month, ACM’s Urban Waterways project is hosting four virtual community forums as part of its Women’s Environmental Leadership (WEL) initiative. Explore the importance of acknowledging the environmental context in which the dual pandemics are taking place. This panel discussion will explore the willingness to explore present challenges through an environmental lens and the lessons intersectional approaches can offer in addressing present challenges. The impacts of Covid-19 on communities worldwide have served to bring into sharper focus inequities which are the consequences of centuries of systemic racism. Socioeconomic disparities have resulted in communities of color experiencing a disproportionate burden of Coivd-19 cases and deaths. If the past year has served as a reminder of the interdependence which is at the center of thriving communities, to what extent have the ongoing efforts of those who view their Environmental work from an intersectional lens served as a warning to the realities of the present? Moderator: Dr. Marva King, Retired EPA EJ Senior Policy Advisor Panelists: Nakisa Glover, Founder/Executive Director Sol Nation Rita T. Harris, Sierra Club National Board of Directors Jacqui Patterson, Sr. Director Environmental Justice Program, NAACP Dr. Deanna Wathington, Principal, Joyfull Works and Consulting, LLC
