Video Title:
“Renwick Invitational 2020” Virtual Workshop with Timothy Horn
Description:
On Thursday, February 11, 2021, SAAM presented a virtual workshop hosted by artist Timothy Horn, one of the artists featured in “Forces of Nature: Renwick Invitational 2020.” Learn how Horn creates his large-scale adornments that combine decorative arts, science, and history. Then follow along as he shares his techniques and leads a tutorial on how to make your own dazzling embellished creations. “Forces of Nature: Renwick Invitational 2020” was presented by the Smithsonian American Art Museum at its Renwick Gallery. The exhibition features artists Lauren Fensterstock, Timothy Horn, Debora Moore, and Rowland Ricketts. Each of these invited artists looks to nature as a way to contemplate what it means to be human in a world increasingly chaotic and divorced from our physical landscape. Representing craft media from fiber to mosaic to glass and metals, these artists approach the long history of art’s engagement with the natural world through unconventional and highly personal perspectives. The Smithsonian Women's Committee Endowment provided generous funding for “Forces of Nature: Renwick Invitational 2020” public programs. Materials that might be helpful for this activity: - Rhinestones or Swarovski crystals (various sizes) - Beads (various sizes) - Floral wire (1) - Jewelry pliers (1) - Jewelry tweezers (1) - Brooch pin back - Hot glue gun or strong craft glue
