Husbandry Highlight: Seagrass "Haircut" Timelapse

Did you know the seagrass in the Seagrass Exhibit at Smithsonian at St. Lucie County Aquarium needs to be groomed? Just like you need a haircut every once in awhile, so does our seagrass. The two primary species in this exhibit, Manatee grass and Turtle grass, need to be trimmed once every month to two months. In the wild these species would be trimmed by wind or wave energy and grazed on by herbivores like manatees, Green Sea Turtles, and fishes like pinfish and mullet, but today our Aquarist Bill, is the herbivore.
