Video Title:
Clarice Smith Distinguished Lecture: Scholar Naomi Beckwith
Description:
Scholar Naomi Beckwith, senior curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, takes a deep dive into her professional background to explore the importance of her informal education as a complement to her formal education. Beckwith discusses how her path has helped shape her curatorial approach in creating her recent exhibitions about African American painter and mixed media artist Howardena Pindell, the artists’ collective AfriCOBRA (African Commune of Bad Relevant Artists), and the Association for the Advancement for Creative Musicians. The Clarice Smith Distinguished Lectures in American Art highlight excellence and innovation in American art with outstanding artists, critics, and scholars. Lectures begin at 6:30 p.m. Pre-registration strongly recommended. This annual series is made possible by the generosity of Clarice Smith. Image credit: Naomi Beckwith.
