Real Estate Agent Goes Above and Beyond for D.C. Resident
Description:
Dwayne Lawson-Brown tells the story of struggling to find affordable housing in one of most expensive cities in the country - Washington D.C. With the help of D.C.’s first-time homebuyers program (officially called the Home Purchase Assistance Program, or HPAP) and an empathetic real estate agent, Dwayne is finally able to become a home-owner. It’s a story about the complicated system potential home-owners navigate in this city and the web of supporters who can make the process easier. Dwayne took part in our 4-part storytelling workshop organized by ACM in summer of 2022 and then performed on stage at Busboys and Poets in Anacostia. Community members were invited learn the art of storytelling so that these powerful stories can be used to create a more equitable society. Our theme this year was “Housing in the District", as part of our year long focus on housing equity and justice in Washington, DC.
