Video Title:
Introduction for Parents/Teachers/Caregivers
Description:
The video sequence is introduced including the materials needed to complete the activities. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Transcript: Hi! My name is Sarah Glassman and I'm a curriculum developer at the Smithsonian Science Education Center. This video sequence, Why is My Shadow Shorter Sometimes and Longer Other Times?, is part of a set of videos intended to use at home. This sequence is specifically geared towards kindergarten through third grade students, but anyone can use it. You'll need a sunny spot outside and a dark or dim spot inside. You'll also need something long or thin like a stick, a pencil, or a knitting needle, and you'll need something to stand it upright in the ground like modeling dough, or clay, or tape. You'll also need a piece of chalk, something to write with like a marker, pen, or pencil, a flashlight, and a big piece of paper or a cereal box or cardboard box cut open. And of course you also need your curiosity! I'm looking forward to making observations, asking questions, and making models with you. Let's get started!
