A plaque affixed to the leg of the lunar landing vehicle is unveiled and Neil Armstrong reads the inscription. The plaque, signed by President Nixon, Neil A. Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin E. Aldrin, Jr, bears a map of the Earth and this inscription: HERE MEN FROM THE PLANET EARTH FIRST SET FOOT UPON THE MOON JULY 1969 A.D. WE CAME IN PEACE FOR ALL MANKIND The plaque resides on the Moon still, left behind with the lower stage of the Lunar Module when Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong departed in the upper stage to rendezvous with Michael Colins orbiting in the CSM.
