The Enola Gay did not fly into combat with its unit standard marking - an arrowhead inside a circle. The circle R is the insignia of the 6th Bomb Broup. The Enola Gay only operated with the 509th Composite Group, but wore this marking during it atomic mission as a disguise so that it would not be reported as something unusual. The Boeing B-29 Superfortress "Enola Gay" is on display at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, VA.
