Melanie Pyle, Smithsonian Gardens horticulturist, demonstrates how to make a bouquet inspired by the flowers growing in a 1950's backyard. We took our inspiration from our newest traveling exhibit, Patios, Pools, & the Invention of the American Backyard. The exhibit explore the rise of outdoor living and entertaining in the decades after World War II. Carnations, roses, freesia, baker fern, stock, and snapdragons lend a vintage vibe to this bouquet.
