Takeha video from Mt Bruce, NZ, a DOC run facility on the North Island. This species was thought to be extinct until rediscovered in 1942 when a small group was found on the South Island , there are about 250 birds now. The largest of the flightless rail type species, they forage on tussocks, insects. By Kathy Brader.
