The concept of home is constantly evolving for Indigenous peoples. Influenced by imposed borders, both visible and invisible, the connections to home continue to change with time and place. Spanish with English closed captioning. Ayelén Lonconao Vargas (Mapuche) Ayelén studied Film and Television at the University of Chile. She was born in the city of Valparaíso, and later moved with her family to the Mapuche community Kechukawin lof, in Aylla Rewe Budi (Puerto Saavedra) in the Araucanía region. There she was involved in various cultural Mapuche Lafkenche activities, as well as local artistic, theatrical and musical experiences, including the band Newen Mapu. Her works are the result of collective creation, and have been presented at the local, regional and national levels, including the First Biennial of Indigenous Art of Santiago de Chile (2006). Meli is Ayelén's first short film. Marcos Ixwalanhkej Ordoñez Mendoza (Chuj) Marcos Ixwalanhkej Ordoñez Mendoza was born in Guatemala and later moved to Telluride, Colorado. He co-wrote a script with his friend Max Walker-Silverman about his personal experiences as an indigenous migrant living in Telluride. In 2020, Max made the script into the short film, Chuj Boys of Summer, which won the Special Jury Award at the 2020 SXSW Festival. Marcos is currently in college majoring in Computer Science with an emphasis in Cyber Security at Western Colorado University. His goal is to work as a Cyber Security or Artificial Intelligence Engineer. Amalia Córdova – Moderator Amalia Córdova is the Latinx Digital Curator for New and Emerging Media at the Smithsonian Institution’s Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage, and co-directs the Smithsonian Mother Tongue Film Festival. She taught Indigenous film at New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study. She has a Ph.D. in Cinema Studies and an M.A. in Performance Studies from New York University. She is from Santiago, Chile.
