Living Self-Portrait: Gwendolyn Elizabeth Brooks - National Portrait Gallery
This highlight comes from an interview of Gwendolyn Elizabeth Brooks on February 11, 1996, recorded as part of the National Portrait Gallery’s Living Self-Portrait Series. She was interviewed by then Senior Historian Marc Pachter. The National Portrait Gallery’s collection includes a 1994 bronze sculpture of Brooks, currently on view in the exhibition "The Struggle for Justice." This bust was on stage with Brooks during her interview. In this segment, she describes her reaction to the sculpture and thanks the artist, Sara S. Miller, with a poem prepared specifically for the occasion. The full interview is available for research by appointment within the Audio/Visual Archive of the National Portrait Gallery.
