Video Title:
Los Camperos de Valles - "El Gusto" [Live at Smithsonian Folklife Festival 2005]
Description:
Watch Los Camperos de Valles perform "El Gusto" at the 2005 Smithsonian Folklife Festival. The song is from their 2005 album, 'El ave de mi soñar: Mexican Sones Huastecos,' out via Smithsonian Folkways. Since the group's inception in 1974, Los Camperos de Valles have come to represent the best in one of Mexico's most distinctive and uplifting folk music traditions—the son huasteco. In the son huasteco tradition, poetic lyrics often deal with themes of longing, love, and nature. The melancholy themes often contrast with and yet somehow complement the playful melodies. "El gusto" (The Pleasure) is about lost love and typifies how imagery of rural life is often used to portray this pain and longing in son huasteco. 'El ave de mi soñar: Mexican Sones Huastecos' is available on CD and digital. Raised on the cattle and sugar cane ranches of the Huastecan region of northeastern Mexico, the three men of Los Camperos de Valles, Marcos Hernández Rosales, Gregorio "Goyo" Solano Medrano, and Joel Monroy Martínez, are acclaimed international ambassadors for their music, their region, and their nation. El Ave de mi Soñar (The Bird of My Dreams) fuses age-old Huastecan repertoire, masterful stylings, and original poetry of musician-poet Artemio Posadas to create a deeply traditional, yet highly creative, monument to Mexican music.
