Video Title:
The Great Inka Road: Cusco—The City at the Center of the Empire
Description:
Anthropologist Jorge Flores Ochoa explains how the Inkas understood physical space. Hanan (upper) and hurin (lower), sunrise and sunset, left and right—Andean dualities were important to the Inka world view. Uniting them, however, is the concept of the center—Cusco, the capital of the Inka Empire. Dr. Flores Ochoa is a member of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Universidad Nacional de San Antonio Abad del Cusco. Produced for the exhibition "The Great Inka Road: Engineering an Empire" (http://americanindian.si.edu/inkaroad/), on view at the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C., through June 1, 2018.
