Article in ten parts; parts 1-7 refer to Africa.
John Kirk reports the death of Dr. Livingstone as witnessed by one of his escorts, Ali Mousa. Vivien de Saint-Martin doubts the report. The Geographical Society of London is sending an expedition headed by M. T. Young to Africa to find the truth. Du Chaillu, famous for reporting on pygmies and gorillas, has just published the account of his second expedition to West Africa. His first book was much criticized. Excerpts, including a passage quoting a chief named Mâyolo are included here. Gerhard Rohlfs is supposedly in eastern Sudan, Karl Mauch is in South Africa, and Le Saint is ascending the White Nile to complete Baker's previous exploration. Baker's wife, who accompanied him, is praised.
