La Villa Abd El Tif in Algiers became a retreat for visiting French artists from 1907. The program was run by the Societé des Orientalistes, which awarded stipends to artists - - a list of Abd El Tif recipients from 1907 to 1960 is appended (page 51). The picturesque Mauresque villa was a favorite subject for painting.
