The gesture depicted in a fifteenth-century Ethiopian Psalter of Jesus and his disciple St. John the Evangelist embracing and kissing is one that reflects a custom still practiced in some parts of Ethiopia. Other examples of this gesture of affection and brotherhood can be found in Ethiopian miniatures.
