Interview with writer Mongane Serote, conducted in April 1991 when he was awarded an honorary doctorate at the University of Natal, after years in exile. He is now (at the time of this interview) head of the Department of Arts and Culture of the ANC in South Africa. Among his works discussed are the poems "Exile," "No baby must weep," "Behold Mama," "Flowers," "Tough tale," and the novel "To every birth its blood".
