Essay on Hindu imagery in Vodun art and its permutations, adaptations and migrations through West Africa (especially Bénin, Togo, and Ghana), Haiti and elsewhere. Examines chromolithographs depicting Hindu deities (e.g., Hanuman, Shiva) and their West African counterparts, especially Mami Wata. Includes description of the Bouriyan (Bomba meu Boi) masquerade festival in Ouidah, Bénin, deriving from Afro-Brazilian tradition. Based on field research in Bénin.
