Plates signed: C. Hullmandel's lithography.

The catalogue entry for the Hope Diamond appears on p. 25 as "No. 1*" in the category "Polished diamonds," with image appearing on plate V.
SCNHRB copy 39088009939810's imprint on t.p. includes month of publication: August, 1839.
SCNHRB copy has ms. ink inscription on front free endpaper: With the author's kind regards to J. Hawkins, esq.
SCNHRB copy has bookplates: 1. Ex libris George Frederick Kunz, PhD.; 2. Smithsonian Institution Libraries. Gift of Mrs. Susanne Steinem Patch.
SCNHRB copy has laid in: blank card (8 x 12.5 cm., [1] p.) with ms. ink note, apparently in George F. Kunz's handwriting, concerning the history of this particular copy: "This is an uncut proof copy containing the priced cat. of the sale of the Hope jewels; & interleaved, the price of many of the gems; only one other priced copy exists. The plates are india paper proofs. In envelope [not in SIL's possession] are le[tters?] fr. Hope & Co., Amsterdam." Also laid in is an orange sheet of paper (27 x 20.5 cm., [2] p.) with penciled notes, in a different hand, linked to entries about the diamonds in the catalogue. Also, a small printed label with the number "329" [Kunz's inventory number] is mounted on the back paste-down endpaper.
SCNHRB copy has some markings and annotations, including prices, penciled throughout in the margins. The name "Maggs", probably for the bookseller Maggs Bros., is penciled on the front free endpaper.
SCNHRB copy was received by SIL in a later brown paper wrapper with the name and address of a former owner: Marshall Cedric Gleason ... Washington, D.C.
SCNHRB copy has contemporary embossed green cloth binding with gold armorial stamp and motto (At spes non fracta) of the merchant bankers Hope & Co. on covers; re-backed, with a gilt-tooled burgundy leather spine label.
