A rock painting at Melikane rock shelter in Lesotho depicts bent figures holding two sticks. The authors introduce ethnographic evidene that these figures may represent diviners similar to contemporary Xhosa diviners. A link to San medicine men in trance had been made earlier by J. David Lewis-Williams.
