Although he has been a practicing artist since the 1950s, Abayomi Barber held his first solo exhibition at the University of Lagos in June 1989, featuring more than 170 works. Known best as a realistic painter (Ojukwu calls him "surrealistic"), Barber also does sculpture. His students and followers at the Centre for Cultural Studies, University of Lagos, where he teaches, have become known informally as The Abayoni Barber School. Two works are illustrated.
