Notes:
One of the 1992 acquisitions at the Metropolitan Museum of Art is a Bondjo (side-blown trumpet), which has a carved-and-painted wood extension attached to the end of the conical tusk. It has a faceted tusk with a raised, diamond-shaped mouthpiece on the concave side. It is possible that it was made in the village of Mpendjwa on Lake Mayi Ndombe, Congo, ca. 1915.
Issued as the annual Recent acquisitions: a selection 1992-1993.
