Both volumes have tissue guardsheets with letterpress captions in red, including case and item number of the objects shown on the corresponding plate. Volume 2 also has blank tissue guardsheets.
[Volume 1] by William M. Laffan. Volume 2, part 1 contains Historical introduction by Dr. S.W. Bushell (a reprint of an article originally published in the edition of the catalogue issued by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1907) and volume 2, part 2, notes by William M. Laffan and Thomas B. Clarke.

SCDIRB copy has later gilt-tooled red morocco leather bindings with raised bands and top edge gilt. Volume 1 has red moire silk with a gilt-ruled red leather border mounted on the paste-down endpapers; the free endpapers are overlaid with gilt-ruled red morocco leather panels; and the volume is housed in a later red cloth slipcase. Volume 2 has red moire silk with a gilt-ruled red leather border mounted on the paste-down and free endpapers.
