Summary:
Hortus Cliffortianus is a descriptive catalogue, illustrated with engravings by Jan Wandelaar of drawings, many by Georg D. Ehret, of plants in the gardens of dutch financier George Clifford (1685-1760) at Hartekamp, near Haarlem. For most species Linnaeus provided full citations to earlier literature records (including illustrations). For this reason the work is of nomenclatural importance to present day taxonomists, and was cited regularly by Linnaeus in his Species plantarum (1753). Clifford's herbarium, which includes type specimens of most of the included species, is now at the Natural History Museum, London
