Published in 1677 with title: Exercitationes de differentiis & nominibus animalium.
The two leaves following p. 213 consist of facing divisional title pages (2E4v and 2F1r), one reading "De variis fossilim [i.e. fossilium] generibus" and the other "De variis fossilium generibus". The other side of each leaf is blank. Perhaps one of the leaves (the misspelled one?) was intended to be cancelled.
Leaf b3 apparently cancelled; leaves b4 and 2Y2 blank.

Page 195 is misnumbered as 165.

SCNHRB has two copies.
SCNHRB c. 1 (39088006355135) has bookplates: 1. (armorial; signed "inv. W.P.B. 1900") William Arthur, 6th Duke of Portland, K.G., with motto: Craignez honte; 2. Smithsonian Institution Libraries. Bequest of S. Stillman Berry.
SCNHRB c. 1 is the gift of Clyde Roper.
SCNHRB c. 1 has stamp on front free endpaper: S. Stillman Berry ... Redlands, California; 27-XI-1956; with autograph in ink on front free endpaper: J. Nourse. A handwritten annotation on the back paste-down endpaper indicates that Berry may have acquired the book from the bookseller Quaritch. A printed bookseller's description of this edition is tipped in on the back free endpaper, and another printed bookseller's citation, in two physical sections, is laid in.
SCNHRB c. 1 has an old full leather binding with raised bands, a blind- and gilt-tooled spine, and red and blue sprinkled edges; re-backed.
SCNHRB c. 2 (39088016717753) is imperfect: leaf b2 is misbound at the end; the plate following p. 92 ("Vpupa") has the bottom half torn away; the plate to face p. 87, "Merops", is wanting. The blank leaves (b4 and 2Y2) are also wanting.
SCNHRB c. 2 has blind-embossed stamp: Smithsonian Institution National Museum; accession no.: 164089.
SCNHRB c. 2 has the autograph of a former owner handwritten in ink at the top of the half-title: Edward William Bradley[?]. With a few handwritten annotations in pencil in the volume.
SCNHRB c. 2 has a later half-leather binding with marbled paper boards, gilt- and blind-tooled spine, and marbled endpapers and edges. "590.8 C478 U.S. National Museum" is stamped in gold at the foot of the spine. Some of the preliminary pages have been repaired.
SCNHRB copy 39088006355135 has bookplate: Smithsonian Libraries Adopt-a-Book program. Adopted by Richard Renner In Honor of Jacqueline Vossler on May 25, 2021.
