Summary:
"Published on the occasion of the eponymous exhibition at the Swiss Cultural Center, Paris, from September 7 to December 9, 2018. The exhibition "An Ideal for Living", designed by Alexandra Bachzetsis for the Swiss Cultural Center, is part of a research on bodies in time, which also resulted in a choreographic piece, Escape Act. The artist explores in particular the relation of bodies and objects, which she considers in a form of reversibility, and associates with the process of construction of imagination and desire. It was inspired by the voguing culture - and in particular the documentary film Paris is burning (1991) -, an urban dance style that has appeared in transgender and gay communities in Afro and Latin America, and characterized by poses-dummies and other movements. It features a photographic series which juxtaposes performers' bodies and objects, creating contradictory associations. The publication also includes two texts by Paul B. Preciado: an essay on the philosophy of movement, and a poem on sexual subjectivity, written with artificial intelligence."--Publisher's information
