Xántus' account of his travels in the United States, including his encounters with tribes of American Indians. He was trained in collecting scientific specimens, and later contributed some specimens to the United States National Museum, Smithsonian Institution.

SCNHRB copy has a modern binding with brown morocco leather gilt-lettered spine and marbled paper boards, raised bands, light orange endpapers, and marbled edges. An old, illegible handwritten inscription in ink has been partially cropped at the top of the title page.
