Summary:
"This guide will help you navigate the seventy-five galleries of The Metropolitan Museum of Art's American Wing, which is divided into four distinct clusters of galleries each presented as a separate visit. You are free to recombine the visits as you see fit: each gallery is numbered, both in the guide and in the Museum itself, so you will always be able to orient yourself and obtain information about the art in front of you. Visit one encompasses The Charles Engelhard Court, with its monumental sculpture and architectural elements on the first floor and chronological displays of silver, glass, and ceramics on the balcony levels. Visit two comprises the historic interiors (or period rooms), arranged chronologically from the earliest on the third floor to the most recent on the first floor, as well as corresponding galleries for decorative arts. Visit three consists principally of the painting and sculpture galleries on the second floor, arranged chronologically, beginning at the glass elevator. Visit four takes you to The Henry R. Luce Center for the Study of American Art, where works not otherwise on view are grouped by material, or medium, in a striking array of floor-to-ceiling glass cases" -- Publisher description.
