Heinrich Egersdorfer (1853 - 1915) visited South Africa on a number of occasions. He made numerous illustrations for the Illustrated London News and other pictorial journals. His paintings of wild life, which nearly always feature action, are becoming uncommon. The Africana Museum in Johannesburg owns a number of his works

Summary:
Depicts a sable antelope being attacked by two cheetahs, one of which has already caught the startled antelope and is going for its throat. A small "kopje" is featured in the middle ground with the "veldt" rolling away towards other hills in the background
