The old negative number is SA-348, but that negative has been lost. There are two copies of this image, the first is black and white, the second is Sepia.
Summary:
Stephen C. Brown, the registrar of the United States National Museum (USNM) from 1881-1919, seated at desk with a log book open in fron of him. Brown joined the Smithsonian staff for the preparation of the government exhibition at the Philadelphia Centennial in 1876. He was then appointed an assistant to H. C. Yarrow, currator of the Division of Reptiles at the United States National Museum.
