Notes:
Through the cooperation of the Architect of the Capitol, Hon. Edward Clark, the original full-size plaster model of the "Statue of Freedom" by sculptor Thomas Crawford which sits atop the dome of the United States Capitol Building was transferred from the basement of the Capitol to the United States National Museum building, now the Arts and Industries Building, and was installed in the Rotunda on December 15, 1890.
Note on back says Acc. 37127 and 23834, donor E. Clark. Statue is 19ft 6 inches high.
Summary:
November 7, 1939. Interior of the National Museum Building rotunda, with the model of the "Statue of Freedom" created by Thomas Crawford for the dome of the Capitol, and donated to the Smithsonian by Architect of the Capitol Edward Clark. The Rotunda features a flag exhibit, displaying oil sketches of flags in use in the United States. Interior stenciled decorating scheme done by Grace Lincoln Temple in 1902.
