Summary:
Lofty descriptions of Washington, D.C.'s design in general and the Mall area in particular, concentrating on three museums of the Smithsonian Institution (Natural History, American History, and Air and Space) and their contents. Also discusses Secretary S. Dillon Ripley's introduction of the Festival of American Folklife and other innovations designed to encourage more public use of the Mall.
