Summary:
It is announced that mammalogist Robert S. Hoffmann has been appointed director of the National Museum of Natural History. He assumes the duties of the director by mid-year, 1986. "The appointment ... marked the first time in the Smithsonian's history that the directorship of MNH has gone to a scientist from outside the institution." He serves until 1989, when he is appointed Assistant Secretary for Research.
