Throughout the war, Sammy Ray, a Pharmacist's Mate in the United States Navy in the Pacific during World War II, who collected specimens for the United States National Museum, maintained correspondence with Dr. Alexander Wetmore, the sixth Secretary of the Smithsonian.
Summary:
Secretary Alexander Wetmore's letter discusses a bat, examined and identified by Dr. Remington Kellogg, Curator of the Division of Mammals, which Sammy Ray had sent with his last lot of birds collected in the Pacific. Wetmore goes on to relate his latest interest in collecting during the fall migration and the bird specimens he has collected.
