Summary:
The Freer Gallery of Art acquires ancient Chinese ceramics collected by Helen Dalling Ling, an American who was married to a Chinese industrial chemist. The 29 objects include a footed jar from the Shang dynasty period (c. 1523-1028 B.C.) and six unbroken bowls from the Warring States period (480-222 B.C.). According to Director Thomas Lawton, the acquisition gives the Freer Gallery the best collection of ancient Chinese pottery in the United States.
