Kjell Bloch Sandved of the Office of Exhibits, National Museum of Natural History (NMNH), at the commission of Porter Kier, then Director, NMNH, prepared these photographic materials to document personnel and activities of NMNH in 1975.
C. Lewis Gazin was named Assistant Curator in the Division of Vertebrate Paleontology at the Smithsonian Institution in 1932. Ten years later, in 1942 he became Associate Curator, and in 1946, a Curator of the Division. In 1948, he served on a Sub-Committee on Exhibits Modernization to produce a report outlining a program to update the exhibitions in the United States National Museum. He was named Senior Paleobiologist in 1967, and when his retirement came in 1970, he was given the title of Paleobiologist Emeritus. Twelve years later in 1982 he became a Curator Emeritus. He wrote ninety-nine works on vertebrate paleontology, most of which were focused on mammalian paleontology. Gazin led field expeditions almost every summer between 1934 and 1969.
For other images of C. Lewis Gazin, see negative numbers SIA2013-03934 and SIA2013-03936.
