Leonard Coleman Gunnell was born on May 28, 1870 and passed away on December 9, 1941. From 1900 to 1906, he was an assistant at the International Catalogue of Scientific Literature, where he later became the chief assistant (1906-1911) and later, the assistant in charge (1911-1933). Then, from 1933-1940, he was the assistant librarian at the United States National Museum.
This image was taken by Ruel P. Tolman, former Director of Smithsonian National Collection of Fine Arts and is included in a scrapbook of photographs of Smithsonian staff, grounds and buildings, exhibitions, and Washington, D.C. scenes (Section G).
