On the back of the photograph is the following: "Sleeping Children, Sculptor William Henry Rinehart, Born in 1825 - 1874 - 49 yrs old, Lived in Baltimore, MD., Gift of Mrs. Benjamin H. Warder, Nat'l Collection of Fine Arts., Wash. 25, D.C."
Also written on the back: by William L. Brown: "I enjoyed seeing this piece of sculpture more than anything I had ever seen done by human hands. Marble is such a hard material but Rinehart made it look soft. In my 51 years and 4 months I worked at the Institution I never lost an opportunity to see it when ever I could. Brown. I am sorry it is not a better photograph."
