Roman Ghrishman was an Ukrainian-born, French archeologist who specialized in ancient Iran, mainly the archeological ruins of Iran. See also Neg. SIA2011-2827.
The medal presentation was followed by a formal opening of an exhibition of Islamic ceramics in the Freer's collections, and a symposium on Islamic pottery that drew scholars from throughout the world. The events were the third of three such special programs that marked the Freer's 50th anniversary celebration.

Dillon Ripley is on the left and Roman Ghirshman recipient of the sixth Freer Medal, awarded to honor distinguished career contributions made by scholars in the history of art, is on the right. Grishman was awarded the medal for his outstanding contribution and achievements in the field of Iranian Art.
