Summary:
Historian Frank A. Taylor was named Director of the United States National Museum in 1962. Taylor began his career in 1922 as a Laboratory Apprentice in the Division of Mechanical Technology in the United States National Museum, now known as the Arts and Industries Building. He was curator of the Division of Engineering (1932-1948), head curator of the Department of Arts and Industries (1948-1955), Assistant Director of the United States National Museum (1955-1958), Director of the Museum of History and Technology (now the National Museum of American History) in 1958, Director of the United States National Museum (1962-1967) and Director General of Museums (1968-1971). Taylor was the chairman of the Exhibits Modernization Program in the 1950s and 1960s and was the founding director of what is now the National Museum of American History.
