Summary:
Painters sitting on scaffolding in one the ranges on the first floor of the Natural History Building. The painters were painting the ceiling of a wing of the new United States National Museum, now the National Museum of Natural History, building soon after it was finished being built.The image was taken by then Director Richard Rathbun. There are about 18 men sitting on the scaffolding, wearing painting uniforms and some are holding brushes in the air. Four men are standing on the floor of the range. Wooden exhibit cases line the hall and some are filled with artifacts.
