From 1962 to 1984 Lundeberg was Curator of Naval History and in 1984, when the Divisions of Naval and Military History were merged to form the Division of Armed Forces History, he was named Curator of Armed Forces History. Following his retirement in 1986, he was named Curator Emeritus of Armed Forces History in 1987.
Summary:
Faculty of the Department of English, History and Government are pictured outside the U.S. Naval Academy building (Mahan Hall) popularly known to midshipmen as "the Bull Department." Philip K. B. Lundeberg stands on far left of back row, next to colleague Arthur Menzies Johnson, later President of the University of Maine at Orono. Seated fifth from right on the front row is Professor Elmer B. ("Ned") Potter, Chairman of the Naval History Committee and editor of the "Sea Power: A Naval History," to which Lundeberg contributed a chapter on the Battle of the Atlantic in World War II. Potter, biographer of Nimitz and Halsey, had served at CincPac headquarters at Pearl Harbor during World War II.
