Captain Tom Faunce sits on board his boat named "The Tomboy" reading. He was a friend of Edward P. Henderson (1898-1992), Curator at the National Museum of Natural History. Henderson recommended the Captain in 1936 to the Geological Society of America when the group wanted to make a field trip around the area, especially the Chesapeake Bay. An article about the Captain was written in 1944 by the Times Herald.
